Of All Places: Public Talk at Rua Red

19th April: 10AM – 4PM
Rua Red present a public talk to coincide with Brian Duggan’s Three Lives exhibition.

Of All Places is a project curated by Hilary Murray and developed in conjunction with Brian Duggan’s Three Lives installation at RUA RED. Of All Places will take the format of a talk session and discussion panel taking place over one day at the theatre space in RUA RED. This project aims to further elucidate the notion of geographical space as opposed to the cued, interactive (or relational) aspect to place. Why is the artwork often situated within a space (the gallery space), rather than a place? Does this lack of relational intent in the display of art create an irrevocable break in the artwork-viewer dynamic or does it simply provide a neutral situation for the objective contemplation and display of art?

The session will loosely cover ideas involved in how artists negotiate the gallery space, the relational (or cognitive) aspect to place and how the propensity of the white cube effects the creation and display of art today.

Six invited speakers will present their ideas on the thematic in the morning and a discussion panel will take place in the afternoon/post lunch where we will open questions to the floor.
