Mermaid is delighted to present a talk by internationally renowned and award-winning photographer Simon Norfolk.
In October 2010, Norfolk began a series of new photographs in Afghanistan, taking his cue from the work of nineteenth-century Wicklow photographer, John Burke. Norfolk’s photographs reimagine or respond to Burke’s Afghan war scenes in the context of the contemporary conflict. Conceived as a collaborative project with Burke across time, here Norfolk discusses this project in what promises to be an enlightening and lively exploration of those strange bedfellows – art and war.
